Surah Baqarah Ayat 4 ( verse 4 ):

وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ وَبِالْآخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ
(  "And who believe in (the Quran and the Sunnah) which has been sent down (revealed) to you (Muhammad PBUH) and in which were sent down before you [the Taurat and the Injeel etc] and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter " )

Christians may have ceremony by burning Quran. This is when Muslims might mistakenly say that your bible is full of contradiction and so on. If it is then Wait a second. Yes they have done changes in bible. BUT we still have to show respect to the words of Allah SWT that might be there somewhere. Because we have Iman in that which was sent before Muhammad SAW.See how Allah defend the faith in this aaya. Read again and ponder What is Allah talking about here.

There is no talking of khatamul ambiya(End of prophecy) in surah baqarah. Allah SWT said they believe in you. Means Muhammad SAW and they believe in what was sent before Muhammad SAW.Did Allah say to believe in whatever sent after Muhammad SAW ?   No ...right ?

So without mentioning that Muhammad SAW was last messenger, Allah SWT explained it. Alhamdulillah. And especially in after life they are convinced. For afterlife,Allah SWT used word 'yaqeen'. Yaqeen in Arabic is to be convince of something so solid that almost like u can see it.In this ayah Iman was mentioned for so many thing but yaqeen is mentioned only for the aakhira.

Surah Baqarah Ayat 5 ( verse 5 ):

أُولَٰئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدًى مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ
( "They are on (true) guidance from their Lord, and they are the successful" )

So, qualities which are mentioned in above aayaat, the one who possess them are those who are committed to great guidance from their master. In Arabic word faaiz also means successful and word muflih also means successful so what's the difference between the two ??

Means then what's the difference between Faayizoon and muflihoon? Why Allah used word muflihoon not faayizoon here ? Muflihoon is actually a farmer. In arabic farmer means fallah. He plants the seed. He waters it. He waits for good year, he waits for the rain, he waits for the crop to grow, and take care that winds do not destroy his crop and so on and after entire year of stress and struggle he finally harvest the crop and at the time of harvest is called fallah, muflih that's what it's called.

In other word he is successful but after a long time of labour.ALLAH says these are the people who are successful but he used the word for successful that implies in it that it doesn't come without effort.Means You have to put lots of time and effort to get to this success.

Surah Baqarah Ayat 6 ( verse 6 ):

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنْذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنْذِرْهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
(  "Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him) warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe.")

A very difficult ayah to understand if one just read a translation. Because messenger SAW is being told by Allah that you warn them or not, they will not believe. But how can this be ? Because no one can give better da’wa than Messenger of Allah, Muhammad SAW.And even if Muhammad SAW giving them da’wa(calling to Islam), then also they are not gonna believe ?

If it is referring to everyone who disbelieve then there is no meaning of da’wa anymore. But it is not. That's why if we don't study Quran well. We can fall into lots of mistakes.

Now try to understand.

Actually this is particular brand of disbelievers whom Allah referring. These are disbelievers the Muhammad SAW played with them, warned them, gave them good news, gave them counsel, gave them examples, explained thing one way then another way, then another way, then another way for an entire decade. But instead of becoming more open minded overtime they became more closed minded overtime.

So now that hijrah(migration) happened to Madinah from Makkah after 13 years of nubuwwa and baqarah is early madani surah. These people who know that Messenger SAW telling the truth but still they don't wanna hear it.These are the people at this point door of the da’wa closed for them. So Allah saying to Muhammad SAW that don't bother with them anymore.Only and only Allah SWT knows what is in the heart of people. We human don't have any rights to judge anyone.

In this blog article, I tried to explain very little about what I understand from ayat 4,5 and 6 of surah Al Baqarah. This was based on my notes taken from one lecture of brother Nouman Ali Khan.

May Allah SWT guide all of us.
