Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 1 to 3 : Beautiful Explanation Nouman Ali Khan

In this blog article in sha Allah I will try to explain first 3 ayat(verses) of surah Al Baqarah. Brother Nouman Ali Khan is doing a very good job for spreading the word of Allah SWT. This article is based on my notes taken from Nouman Ali Khan's lecture. Tafseer of these verses are really beautiful and amazing.

So lets start understanding beautiful aayaat of Quran Paak.

Surah Baqarah Ayat 1 ( verse 1 ):

الم
"Alif Laam Meem"

Everything has a peak and Muhammad SAW said peak of the Quran is Surah baqarah.

It is madani surah.Makki ppl are ummi(unlettered) so they don't know the alphabet. In Arabic conversation alif laam and all not used. As they are hurf not words. So only the one who know how to read and write knows what these letters are.So Madani people( Israelite ) who were educated when heard Muhammad SAW saying alif laam meem. They thought where he got this info? As he pbuh was ummi. So this brought their attention.

Surah Al Baqarah Ayat 2 ( verse 2 ):

ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًى لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

"This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah -"

Messenger SAW was not had physical Quran with him. There was not a book to show. Aayat used to get revealed on him. And in his heart.And Allah used word kitab(book) not Quran(recital). So where is the book? It is in 7th heaven in Loh e Mehfooz. And when we are pointing something which is away, word used in arabic is zalika.Which means that book.Not this book.

Also In arabic when you point something which is far away it is to say it is above. IT has high standard. So this is a means of magnifying the greatness of book of Allah SWT. There is absolutely no doubt in it whatsoever. In arabic When u say no to something which can Not have ANY Exception then you put fatha after the La.It is incredible guidance for people who have taqwa. This peak of the Quran begins with word taqwa. And this word used in this surah 36 times in different forms.

ALLAH keeps talking about taqwa over and over and over again.

At other place Allah says Guidance for people. But here he says guidance for those who ask for guidance, who want to have guidance and they can only be those who have this feeling called taqwa.Taqwa is not just fear.Because for fear there are other Arabic words khauf and khashiya. Taqwa includes attempt to protect yourself ,to be careful, to be cautious. It is precaution resulting as a result of fear.

Surah Al Baqarah Ayat 3 ( verse 3 ):

الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنْفِقُونَ

"Who believe in the Ghaib and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and spend out of what we have provided for them"

Look the sequence here. If you believe in unseen establish Salah is easy. But if your Imaan in unseen is week , you find yourself lazy in salah. Allah did not say they pray salah( wa yusalloon). ALLAH SWT said they establish salah. And there is difference between the two. Establish means it doesn't break. It is firm. So what kind of people can strengthen their prayer like this? People who believe in unseen(ghaib).

And then Allah teaches us two things here. First - You are not spending anything that's yours. He tells us I gave it to you and now you are spending.You are transferring a money from your duniya(this world) account to your aakhira(hereafter) account.When you transfer money from one account to your other account. Do you say that you lost money? No... right ? So it's not a lost. Both are your account.Look at the sequence in this ayah. First Allah talks about Imaan in unseen. If it is then establishing salah is easy. And if one establish salah then giving in Allah’s cause becomes easy.
