In this blog article, In sha Allah I will try to explain little tafseer and beautiful insights of ayat 21 of surah al-baqarah. This article is my understanding based on one of the lecture of brother Nouman Ali Khan.

Now, lets start understanding these beautiful aayaat of Quran Paak.
Surah Al-Baqarah Ayah 21:(verse 21)
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
("O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous ")
Now this is a concluding ayah. Before this ayah, 3 groups have been talked about. Believers were talked about briefly. Kuffar were talked about briefly. Then Munafiqoon were talked about at length…...why ?? Because the believers are very clear category. Disbeliever are also a very clear category( because they are not hiding ). But munaafiq is difficult category to figure out. I don't know where I stand you don't know where you stand. And there is no reason for us to judge either. So Allah spend extra time on the case that is difficult.
After this introductory verses there is lots of discussion of bani Israel... why ?? Because their problem was not of Imaan and kufr, their main problem was hypocrisy( nifaaq ). We should Learn from their mistake so that we don't make the same mistakes. That's why Allah will give us detailed account of the life of bani Israel in the coming aayaat. And here Allah SWT concluding with all these 3 groups as these 3 groups all together makes humanity. Because humanity is either believers or disbelievers or hypocrites. So now at the end of this passage it is time to address all of them together and a final invitation.
All People listen up. Enslave yourselves and worship master of all of you, who created you and those before you. If someone ask you what's the summary of Quran. The answer would be, accept yourselves as slave and accept Allah as master. You got the summary of Quran. Taqwa just does not mean you can be fearful. It means that you protect yourselves when you have taqwa in your heart. Surah Baqarah begins with talking about guidance for people of taqwa. People who want to protect themselves, takes precautions. The one who created you and the one created those before you, enslave yourselves to him so that you all can protect yourselves.
In this blog article, I tried to explain very little about what I understand from ayat 21 of surah Al Baqarah. This was based on my notes taken from one of the lectures of brother Nouman Ali Khan.
