Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 9 to 12 : Beautiful explanation Nouman Ali Khan

In this blog article, In sha Allah I will try to explain little tafseer and beautiful insights of ayat 9, 10,11 and 12 of surah al-baqarah. This article is my understanding based on one of the lecture of brother Nouman Ali Khan.

Now, lets start understanding these beautiful aayaat of Quran Paak.

Surah Baqarah Ayat 9 and 10 ( verses 9 and 10 ):

يُخَادِعُونَ اللَّهَ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلَّا أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُون

فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ فَزَادَهُمُ اللَّهُ مَرَضًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْذِبُون َ

"They (think to) deceive Allah and those who believe, while they only deceive .themselves, and perceive (it) not!
In their hearts is a disease and Allah has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies"

They( munafiq) are trying to fool Allah , they are trying to fool those who believes.But actually they are not fooling anyone except their own selves. And they don't even realize this.

There are two basic kind of munafiq.

1- one who are not muslim but pretending to be muslim.

2 - second kind of munafiq, they are even more dangerous. Because he or she doesn't know that they are munafiq. They think they are good muslim. And this could be anyone of us.But how we will get to know about this??

So in the very next ayah Allah saying in their heart is a disease. i.e Hypocrisy is a disease. A Fatal disease. So only way for knowing if you and I are sick is to look for symptoms. Right ? So this surah will give us some symptoms other surah will give us even more symptoms.So we should be constantly look out for these things inside of us.And then Allah said Allah increased their disease. May Allah SWT not make us from those unfortunate people.

One of the special thing about surah baqarah is that it deals with matters of heart, in great details. And in surah a'ale imran a very next surah you will find lots of mention of Islam. So first you fix what's inside then what's come outside is Islam. Then Allah said for them is painful punishment( azabun aleem ).For disbeliever Allah had said They have great punishment( azabun azeem ). But then Allah took step further for munafiq. ALLAH SWT said they have painful punishment.

Arabic word 'aleem' means constantly painful. Means this pain will never go down. They will not develop any tolerance for this pain. In other word this punishment is even worse than the punishment mentioned for kuffar. When we study Quran we get to know when Allah talking about punishment of munafiqoon he is the harshest even more harsh than he is toward kuffar. Even though punishment of kuffar is also very harsh.

But Allah took next step for munafiq. Because of the lie they continue to make. This is a first symptom. May Allah SWT not make us from amongst them.

Surah Baqarah Ayat 11 and 12 ( verses 11 and 12 ):

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ قَالُوا إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُون

أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَٰكِنْ لَا يَشْعُرُونََ

(  And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers."
Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not.  )

These hypocrites had some non muslims friends and some muslims friends from Madinah.And they wanna keep both side happy. So that if muslim does not win they have good connection with non muslims and vice versa.Therefore they don't take a clear side. And this is a kind of corruption. 

And when it is said to them they say we are just trying to create peace between two side.

Not knowing that those on other side not interested in peace. And that's the other misconception. Because those kuffar(non-believers) had far more animosity in their heart towards Muslims than Muslims ever had towards them.

Muslims only responded to injustice that were done to them by kuffar. Even prisoners of war were treated so good by Muslims. But kuffar had intense hatred for Muslims.

Then Allah says you should know these munafiq are the one who are cause of mischief. However they have no realization.They don't feel it at all.
